Due to the rapid increase of foreign residents (6.934 foreign citizens - as of July.1.2007) in Kani City and consequently, a society composed of people from different cultures, Kani City started to build a Multicultural Center in Shimoedo area. The center will open in April, 2008 and it aims to form a multicultural society, where every citizen regardless of nationality can live comfortably and in harmony. In order to accomplish that, the Center will promote mutual understanding between Japanese and foreign residents regarding their cultural/customs differences.
The main activities of the facility are: 1. Provide information and counseling to foreign residents.2. Provide support of Japanese language education. 3. Provide a place for social and cultural gatherings.
